The Wave Box
I checked out the Wave Box website a couple of weeks back and almost everything had been taken down, just a coming soon opening page and an ability to sign up to email updates. All the cheesy graphics and claiming how rad it was going to be were gone and also they had removed the option of paying $1000 for a lifetime pass. The promo vid is still up on youtube complete with Nu-Metal style sound track. Lets go!
The Wave Box was originally scheduled to open in December this year so while in Auckland this week I scoped out the site to see what sort of progress they’ve made. I was surprised to discover they had started construction, this thing is actually going ahead. It was a lot smaller than I imagined, I would estimate the Wave Box is around 1/6th the size of Snow Planet which is about 10 minutes further north up the motorway.
Here’s a couple of photos I took in the rain.
I’ve emailed the Wave Box crew and have secured a media pass to the opening “later this year”. So I’ll be there to let the world know if this thing is a success or a failure. I sent Surfing Magazine’s “Jimmicane” a link to the Wave Box a while back and he has posted an article on the Surfing Magazine website.

how does this thing work? looks tiny you get a what.. 5 meter ride?
ah I’m not sure if it does work, but before they took all the other info down it was saying you would surf around in a circuit and it would be a 43 second ride! Sounds crazy, just might be?

Be good to know who is rippn up there, being from Tga but living in Welly its good to know whats happening up there.

How do you get a media pass?
